What is MD:Pro?
MD:Pro is a vast malware repository with a huge collection of samples, for the purposes of analysis, testing and malware research. It should be noted that this is a paid service, aimed at corporate applicants only.
Why was MD:Pro created?
MD:Pro was created with the following core ideology in mind:
- Give security researchers the room to concentrate on developing solutions, instead of spending valuable time trying to track down malware samples
- Provide mainstream security industry with a reputable research and development resource
- Cater for security providers that fall outside of the core circle of anti-virus vendors, saving on enormous amounts of time, money and effort having to be invested in order to gather resources for R&D and testing purposes
- Existing open source repositories (e.g. Offensive Computing) do not fit requirements (company policy, malware volume, ...)
Why do you need it?
Our service is primarily used for malware research and testing:
- Testing and quality assurance of anti-malware solutions
- Load, stress and performance testing of hardware based security solutions
- Functional and operational testing of IPS, IDS and black-listing applications
- Checking accuracy of systems against large influx of outdated (legacy) malware
- Verifying systems usability, quality assurance and compliance
- Research and development
How much does it cost?
A subscription to MD:Pro costs € 850.00 (approx. $ 1150.00) per month, for a minimum subscription period of 12 months. After the initial subscription period membership is renewed on a rolling basis and can be terminated at one month’s notice. Note that the shown USD amount is an estimate based on the EUR value, correct as of April 2010. Conversion will take place at time of invoicing.
Sample volume, sources & distribution
Sample volume normally varies between 50000 – 250000 malware samples per week, with exceptions from time to time. Our samples come from various sources: honeypots, alliances, trading/donations & our own research. We distribute live malware samples to our customers, in password secured ZIP compressed format every update cycle.
